BIO
Martina Alice Tolotti is a conceptual fine art documentary photographer and architect based in Berlin. Born and raised in Milan, she graduated in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano. Her academic path was shaped by an international perspective, including an exchange year at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and a research scholarship at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
She refined her visual language at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie (OKS) in Berlin, under the mentorship of Tobias Kruse and Mustafah Abdulaziz. Since 2017, she has lived and worked in Berlin, maintaining a dual practice where architectural rigor informs her photographic inquiry.
WORK
Martina’s practice stems from a desire to apply an analytical lens to the perception of reality, distilling complex environments into a crystalline visual form. As a conceptual fine art documentary photographer, she focuses on landscapes and surfaces, treating them as sites of narrative tension and historical record.
By observing the "storytelling" inherent in the land and the territories she inhabits, she seeks to harmonize ancient archetypes within an era defined by social fluidity, temporal shifts, and spatial contamination. This exploration is central to her latest project, Hypertier, which investigates the fragile and paradoxical coexistence of humans and animals within hyper-constructed environments.
Her work has been exhibited at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), Paratissima (Turin), and the Photometria Festival (Greece), where she was selected and awarded by Martin Parr. She has collaborated with various publications and has received multiple international accolades, including the Life Framer Award, judged by Emma Lewis.
