BIO
Martina Alice Tolotti, born in Milan in 1988, studied and graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan. She also pursued studies at the Bauhaus University in Germany and the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Since 2017, she has been living in Berlin, where she works as both an architect and photographer. Her recent group exhibitions have taken place at the Bethanien Künstlerhaus in Berlin and at the "Photometria" Festival in Ioannina, where she was selected by Martin Parr. She has received several awards and accolades, including the one judged from Emma Lewis for the Life Framer Competition in London.
Her introduction to photography occurred while she was pursuing her architecture degree, due to an intense longing for sensory expansion and the pursuit of an analytical method to distill her perception of reality.
Aware of her role as a transient human presence, Martina Alice enjoys capturing surfaces and landscapes within a narrative dimension that often transcends different eras.
Observing her personal perception of time in relation to the storytelling of the land she inhabits is a practice that enables her to harmonize ancient reference points in an era characterized by the fluidity of social and temporal dynamics and spatial contamination.
Martina Alice Tolotti holds a deep affinity for images because of their extraordinary capacity to simultaneously share memories in various dimensions, record the conditions of matter, and narrate transformations within the identity of humans, compositions and landscapes.
